I haven’t been to Seattle yet. It’s my Dad’s favorite city in the US, and frankly any city that produced Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix has to be pretty awesome. This week they’ve been the one shining light in what has otherwise seemed a tad depressing. I mentioned previously that the State Senate is considering a bill to legalize marijuana in the state. Earlier in the week, Seattle’s City Attorney wrote an op-ed piece in the Seattle Times, supporting the bill and stating that,

Marijuana prohibition is more than a practical failure; it has been a misuse of both taxpayer dollars and the government’s authority over the people.

The paper has followed that up with their own editorial, supporting legalization:

Marijuana should be legalized, regulated and taxed. The push to repeal federal prohibition should come from the states, and it should begin with the state of Washington.

I think they vote this week- although even if it’s passed, there’s still a question of whether the Governor would approve the measure. Fingers crossed.
